MN / WI Trumpeter & Tundra Swan and Bald Eagle Tours
Copyright Tawnya Michels Outdoor PhotographyListen to a Swan Call
The best time to see migrating tundra swans on the Mississippi River in southern Minnesota is usually in November, after the northern lakes and rivers freeze up. There are always some bald eagles around at this time too. The tundra swans will leave for the east coast when the back waters of the Mississippi River, or the Mississippi River itself, freezes over.
January through March is usually the best time for trumpeter swans north of Minneapolis/St. Paul, and for bald eagles south of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Copyright Tawnya Michels Outdoor PhotographyWe regularly see bald eagles throughout the year on our western Wisconsin and southern Minnesota tours. We have access to at least three sites where you may be able to view and photograph nesting bald eagles, including seeing the downy white chicks in the spring and summer.
We often visit the National Eagle Center and the Wildlife Science Center on our tours, where you can see captive eagles, hawks, owls, bears and fox, and see and listen to howling gray wolves.

During the spring you will be able to locate turkeys by calling to them on their roosts in the morning, and hear them gobble in return to your calls. If you get up before sunrise you may get to watch them fly down from their roosts, and watch and listen to them as the toms display for the hens by spreading their tails, turning their heads red, white and blue, and hear them "spit" and "drum" while they are on the feeding and strutting areas. You can even learn to use a turkey call. View T.R.
